Series Description (Contains Spoilers)
This is a book series about a post apocalyptic Earth. Both Magic and Tech comes in waves, without warning, and vanishes as suddenly as it appears with no set amount of time between waves it has left the worlds inhabitants in constant turmoil of not knowing what is going to happen next. When magic is up, planes drop out of the sky, cars stall, electricity dies. When magic is down, guns work, cars drive and spells fail.
It’s a world turned on its head, all sky rise buildings and hi-tech equipment from before the first wave, have mostly been corroded away by the magic, leaving nothing but skeletal husks, and dust behind. Some of the more rich humans have managed to survive with majority of their comforts intact, those who don’t have money though, it was like going back to the dark age, but like anything else, the humans have learnt to adapt and survive.
It wasn’t only Tech that was corrupted by magic, weird creatures and monsters no prowl the streets of the world, some humans can transform into were-animals thanks to the Lyc-V virus that was enacted when the first wave hit. Masters of the Dead, necromancers have emerged. Driven by their thirst of knowledge and wealth, pilot blood-crazed vampires with their minds, and even the odd god rears its ugly head now and again levelling cities or bending the laws of magic to their will.
And who is on the receiving end of all this S%*@… Kate Daniels of course, armed with her trusty sword, her whit’s, her training, a tongue so sharp you could punch through armour plating, and a little un paralleled blood magic she smashed some skulls and unwillingly (at first) gained the attentions of Male Alpha of the Pack, and she became the mediator between the Pack (were-humans) and the People (Necromancers) bridging a steady peace in their small corner of the world.
Kate is the smart-alec, bad mouthed heroine of the series, the magic in her blood makes her a target, she has spent most of her life running and hiding from her real father. But that is about to change, she is done hiding, and now she is ready to kick evil righteously on its ass.

My Thoughts:
One year ago, I had never heard or read anything by Ilona Andrews. I had ran out of things to read, as I had Just caught up with the Fated series. This was when my Friend Ceri (thank you Ceri!!) suggested Magic Bites.. and implored me not to be put off by the cover, needless to say I took her advice and I was not disappointed!
So why do I Like this series? well other then fantastic quotes like this one
“Eleven out of twelve work fine. I’d say that’s better chances than getting an orgasm with a blind date and women still try.” – Kate Daniels Series, Ilona Andrews
Kate Daniels, is everything I want in a heroine for this kind of genre. She has a dry humor, she can even be a bit of a smart ass, she struggles to keep her mouth shut, and more often than not bites off a little more then she can chew. She’s an ass kicking, sword welding badass and yet, she is remarkably down to earth. The constant changing of magical to tech environment keeps the story fresh and often plays to both the advantage and disadvantage of the main cast. Kate only has one real equal and that is her love interest Curran, undoubtedly stronger, but his character is by no means as likeable. The writing was fast paced, action packed, and there is never a dull moment. If you are looking to invest some time in a well paced, relatively easy reading magical series. I highly recommend this one.
Until next time, read more books..
