Hello my fellow wordsmiths and page turners,
It is now September 2020. I, like many others, have been in lockdown since March. Until recently I had a full time job, and was working from home, and I have to admit that I found staying active and motivated particularly difficult. But at least I was being told day in day out what to do. However my new found freedom got me thinking, what was life like for those of a creative persuasion?
They of course would have to deal with the same physical limitations that I have, in that they are pretty much housebound for the most part. On the other hand, they have nobody to specifically dictate what they create. With all this silence I thought that maybe it was an ideal setting for creating.
I mean I always say I dont do things as I lack the time, and now I have more time than I know what to do with.
If we look to the past, many artists have been very creative when they were deprived of their freedom. Frida Kahlo, Oscar Wilde and Tove Jansson, to just name a few who utilized their isolation to create amazing peices of work.
So that led me to think what have they been creating, and what have they been drawing inspiration from, given that we are all essentially locked up in our own homes unable to venture out for longer than a day without putting others at risk. Has their work become incredibly policitcal, in this new Lockdown Culture? Or has it taken a completely different turn?
In order to find out I will be doing a number of posts over the coming weeks, which cover individual projects that a number of creatives have completed in this trying time, along with their account of their experience and processes.
