What are the three best books you have read this year? (So far)
My top 3 books of this year so far are:
- The Name of The Wind : by Patrick Rothfuss
- The Vagrant : by Peter Newman
- The Clockwork Dagger : by Beth Cato
What is your favourite meal and why?
Ohh.. this one is quite difficult.. as well.. I really like my food, I would have to say my current favourite meal is an Unagi Don which a dish originating in Japan. It consists of a donburi type large bowl filled with steamed white rice, and topped with fillets of eel (unagi) grilled in a style known as kabayaki, similar to teriyaki. The reason i like this is because I love the flavours and it reminds me of my time in Singapore, and reminds me of my dream to one day go to Japan and have all the delicious traditional food there.
Where was the last place you visited in the world?
The last place I visited, in England was the market town of Beverley in order to get some fresh meat and Veg from the market. The last country I visited was Singapore which I visited last year.
What is your favourite book?
My current favourite book of all time is the Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, with its dark hustle come ocean’s eleven-esc story set within an Italian flavoured fantasy Venice, why isnt it everyones favourite?
Prose or poetry or drama?
Prose –
If you were in a book, who would be your best friend?
I would be best friends with the wise cracking, ass kicking protagonist who is a bit of a royal pain in the butt at times, but they have their heart in the right place really. Someone like Kvothe from Name of the wind or Drothe from Tales of Kin.
Name one thing you’d like to do before you’re 70.
I would really like to get a short story or novel published, I think it would be a crowning achievement and it’s a big aspiration for me.
What is your biggest dream?
Biggest dream?.. this one’s a “toughie”, I suppose my biggest dream at the moment is to be self sufficient, and have the opportunity to travel around the world and have adventures before I get too old to do so.
What is your favourite genre of writing?
I would say I am a fan of most forms of writing but I am most definitely more partial to Fantasy / Fiction then most other genres however I am a big fan of cross over genres in particular detective / fantasy I find them most fascinating.
You write a novel based on your life. What is it called?
Double Dipped : the story of Sam, the devourer of biscuits
